The 5 Best Hotels to Stay in Ibiza, Spain

The Top 5 Hotels in Ibiza, Spain

Ibiza’s top hotels aren’t simply hotels because it’s the home of Haute Hippies. Elegant communes, agriturismo farmhouses, and hotels that double as house parties are among the options. The greatest locations are tucked away in places where the pace is slower, the furnishings are more sophisticated, and hammocks are a common sight. Farm-to-table meals, yoga retreats, and wellness programs are all popular terms these days. The world’s major players have begun to establish themselves on the islands as well. At the waterfront Nobu Ibiza Bay, close behind Marina Botafoch, bento boxes are chewed on bleached-wood sun loungers. A large Six Senses resort opened in northern Ibiza’s Cala Xarrac recently, gaining international interest.

There’s much to choose from, whether you want to relax by an infinity pool or hideaway in a whitewashed hut. To help you decide, we’ve compiled a list of the best hotels in Ibiza in no specific order.

1. Nobu Ibiza Bay

The Waterfront Hotspot

Because it’s nearly hard to develop anything new in Ibiza these days, hotel groups must wait for old summer spots to close. So, didn’t Nobu’s owners (the MC collection – The Marbella Club, Puente Romano, etc.) and the Livingstone brothers – Cliveden, Chewton Glen) strike it rich? They discovered a Talamanca hotel with ocean access, a wide lick of beach, and dazzling blue waves, directly below Marina Botafoch, yet metaphorically miles away from the yachty glitter. And, notwithstanding the hotel’s potentially daunting Ibiza-ness, with its chiringuito beach restaurant Chambao, €300 swimwear boutiques, and sashimi-serving Nobu, it’s a calm, pad-around-in-your-bikini type of place.

Adults sip fresh watermelon juice, munch from bento boxes, and sink their toes into the warm sand from bleached-wood double sun loungers as children vanish into the kids’ club. There’s a continual tinkle of ice in glasses and methuselahs of rosé being hustled around, and there’s calm music playing. Macramé and fringing, as well as beiges, blues, and whites, adorn the bedrooms. From bed, you can see boats bobbing in Talamanca Bay, the tips of palm trees, and morning people jogging along the boardwalk that leads to Fish Shack. The dedicated south- and north-coast villa stalwarts are flocking to this exuberant, boho addition.

2. Ibiza Gran Hotel, Ibiza

The Art Hotel

This is a new type of hotel in Ibiza. Ibiza Gran is a model of calm luxury, designed for those who adore the island’s hedonistic pleasures but are ready for a more laid-back getaway. The premises are filled with bespoke artwork by renowned international creatives, and the spa is quickly establishing itself as Ibiza’s go-to respite center. Meanwhile, the hotel’s main restaurant, La Gaia, has just been awarded a Michelin star, making it the first hotel on the island to do so. If you’re still not convinced, take a look at the corner suites, which each have a private infinity pool that stretches out towards the bay and offers unobstructed views of Dalt Vila.

3. Six Senses Ibiza

The International Newcomer

Six Senses Ibiza

Even the full-service 116-room Six Senses resort is tucked away on a mountainside and only accessible by a twisting dirt road, a fitting homage to Ibiza’s bohemian ethos. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted with a shamanic smoke cleaning ceremony, just one of the many wellness seminars and courses available. Rest, recharge, and reset are the themes here, but on a grand scale. From the bamboo-clad roofs that replicate Ibiza’s typical fisherman huts to the minibars stocked with ashwagandha and CBD-infused soft drinks, the attention to detail is unrivaled.

Pale wood, leather, and stone are used in the interiors, which are understated, sensual, and classy. Although there are some rustic details to match the hotel’s earthy enclave, it’s a mature space that attracts a worldwide population of Haute bohemians. Some people stay for a while, waking up in a junior suite with a terrace, pool, and sea views before heading down to paddle-board from a ladder right into the water. Then some never leave – there are several Six Senses Residences for sale.

4. Can Sastre, Ibiza

The Boutique Hideaway

Can Sastre, Ibiza

Can Sastre touts itself as an agriturismo and is just ten minutes from the cool Santa Gertrudis. This five-room motel feels like you’re stepping into the house of owner Bibi and her husband Ray, despite the lack of agricultural life. Their lovely blonde youngsters scamper around (quietly) in towel capes underfoot, while their parents inquire about your night out or assist with dinner reservations, but beyond that leave you alone. The white Finca exteriors are draped in bougainvillea with hammocks hanging in shady places, thanks to the Dutch couple who bought and renovated the space in the summer of 2018. Simple whitewashed walls and wicker baskets sit with palm-fringed lampshades in the bedrooms.

At sundown, get the freshly cooked edamame drenched in salt from the poolside honesty bar and help yourself to a big glass of blush rosé. Scooped-out wooden bowls of chilled acai topped with candied fruit and almonds, as well as beetroot juice to drink with a bamboo straw, are available for breakfast. Lunch trays of fresh bread, Iberico ham, and manchego cheese can be arranged if requested ahead of time. It’s as good a place to hide away from the rest of the island as it is a jumping-off point for exploring Ibiza’s farm-to-table restaurants, beach clubs, and mega-clubs.

5. Agroturismo Atzaró, Ibiza

The Spa Revival

This 24-bedroom working agriturismo pioneered the farm-to-fork approach on the island when it debuted in 2004, farming all of its fruit and vegetables in the neighboring hills. The rural movement is now thriving. And Atzaró has progressed once more. Everyone eventually agreed that the Asian-themed styling was no longer appropriate. So out went the shantung silks and dark grey walls, the stone Buddhas and black lacquer, and in went mother-of-pearl inlaid doors, teak four-posters, polished terracotta tiling, and whitewash, the seven-generations-old family finca’s customary paint. The collapsing bougainvillea towers outside every window are now a riot of color.

This valley is located in the center of Ibiza, and the hotel has re-established its roots and authenticity. Rooms are spread out like a slow-meandering village in the heart of 13 hectares of orange orchards, with walks and archways, miniature buildings, secret staircases, shaded pergolas, pencil-straight cypress trees, and pristine gardens. The wind rustling the palms and the cooing of the wood pigeons provide the music. The open-air spa offers vigorous massages and dreamy facials in the carved wooden treatment rooms, vinyasa flow yoga in the temples, and a soapy scrub-clean in the hammam. Subsequently in the year, when the allure of the beaches, bars, and late-night shenanigans has faded, more extensive, complex wellness programs will be available to dive into.
