Places for Beach Camping in Southern California
If you believe that beach camping is impossible in Southern California because every inch of the shoreline is bordered by condos or mansions, you are only partially correct. 1. Silver Strand State Beach
The Coronado Peninsula is home to Silver Strand State Beach. It can fit RVs and trailers that are up to 40 feet long. They have an enormous vehicle rate if you have a large car that would obstruct two campsites. Self-contained RVs are required. The beach is right close to sites 101 through 137, however, no campground is more than a few feet away.
2. San Elijo State Beach
San Elijo State Beach is located north of San Diego, between Del Mar and San Elijo, near the hamlet of Cardiff-by-the-Sea. Campers up to 35 feet long can be accommodated in the facilities. Reservations are strongly advised.
3. Dockweiler State Beach
There is only one beach camping in Los Angeles, but it is in a magnificent location. Dockweiler State Beach is located between Marina Del Rey and Manhattan Beach, close below LAX’s takeoff and approach path. The west-facing beach offers a panoramic view of Santa Monica Bay and is located adjacent to the Redondo Beach-Santa Monica Bike Path. The only snag? It’s solely for RVs.
4. Bolsa Chica State Beach
Bolsa Chica State Beach is a popular surf fishing spot with a gorgeous shoreline, however, only RVs and no tents are permitted. It’s also one of Orange County’s premier beaches for wildlife viewing.
5. Chula Vista RV Resort
Chula Vista RV Resort has 237 full-hookup campsites next to a 552-slip marina. A general store, a ladies’ boutique, a picnic area, a swimming pool and spa, laundry, full restrooms, club rooms, and two full-service restaurants with riverfront dining are just a few of the amenities available.
6. Doheny State Beach
Doheny State Beach is a large park with a camping ground on the south side, with some campsites being only a few moves from the beach. It can fit RVs and trailers that are up to 35 feet long. The one drawback of Doheny is that major events such as the Doheny Blues Festival can cause camping and car access to be disrupted.
7. San Clemente State Beach
The beauty and ocean vistas at San Clemente State Beach are well-known. The beach stretches for about a mile and is located at the base of a steep bluff. The park has connections and a dump station for campers and trailers up to 30 feet long.
