We present some beautiful locations for warm summer days and nights in different cities in Switzerland. To enjoy a cool drink or delicious snacks at dizzy heights with a magnificent view, you don’t always have to travel to a European metropolis. There are also great rooftop gems in Swiss cities.
1. Lucerne
Fancy that Miami Beach feeling? No problem on the roof of the Art Deco Hotel Montana! New lounges and cabanas on the sand invite you to chill out at the Beach Club, while a whirlpool and rainforest shower provide the necessary cooling. Of course, there are also fine cocktails and delicacies in this unique paradise.
On the 8th floor of the legendary Astoria Lucerne, the Penthouse is an incredible 360° rooftop bar with a magnificent all-round view over the roofs of Lucerne and the Alps. The roof bar, niches, and terrace in the southern part have been given a facelift. The lockdown period was used by those responsible for a gentle conversion. In addition to delicious drinks, there is also a party with a live DJ in the well-attended bar every weekend (admission free).
2. Basel
The perfect place to start a warm summer night: is Basel Rheinhafen; the “Deck57” invites you to chill and enjoy. Not only the delicious cocktails are well-known in the city, but also the Argentinian burgers and empanadas. And the most colorful sunset in Basel comes as a free supplement.
A mixture of relaxed chic, a little bohemian style, and a cozy living room atmosphere make the Baltazar Bar’s beautiful roof terrace a hip place in Basel’s “Steinen” pedestrian zone.
3. Bern
Pleasure is also a top priority in the capital: the SKY Terrace of the Hotel Schweizerhof Bern presents itself as romantic, elegant, and the Mediterranean. The 360° panoramic view of Bern’s old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is spectacular. On the weekend, we recommend a hearty breakfast on the cozy terrace.
4. Bathe
On the highest level of the Blue City Hotel in Baden, you can quickly chill out on comfortable sofas and wicker beach chairs in a significant (holiday) ambiance. In summer, when the weather is nice, delicious cocktails, long drinks, and an excellent selection of snacks are served in the BlickBar rooftop lounge from Tuesday to Saturday from 4 p.m., with a beautiful view over the roofs of Baden.
5. Geneva
This is how life is: Stylish ambiance, a glass of wine, exquisite finger food, and an incredible sunset with a view of Lake Geneva and Mont Salève. It’s all at the Met Rooftop Lounge.
6. Winterthur
Whether for a barbecue (à discretion!) or just for a refreshing cocktail, Winterthur’s best view, dreamy sunsets are available free of charge on the hotel roof terrace of Banana City.
7. St. Gallen
On the ninth floor of the Radisson Blu Hotel St.Gallen, an Eastern Swiss hotspot invites you to chill out with delicious delicacies à la 1001 nights (including a mezze plate with hummus and falafel) and refreshing drinks such as the Spada Royal or Cucumis lavender. In addition to special events and yoga courses, there are also regular music sessions with well-known DJs in the elegant rooftop bar with a panoramic view of the Gallus city.
8. Chur
Would you like Italianità in the Alpine town? In the middle of the old city is probably the most beautiful roof terrace in Chur. The associated Ristorante La Meridiana (a wood-fired pizza oven) provides that culinary holiday feeling.
9. Lausanne
It is a place with a 360° panoramic view over Lausanne and Lavaux, Lake Geneva, and the Alps: “Tout Lausanne” meets in the Sky Lounge of the Royal Savoy Hotel & Spa. The ambiance is very elegant and cosmopolitan, and the drinks and food served are extremely tasty and sophisticated. The stylish bar with a casual dress code is always open from Wednesday to Sunday from 3 p.m. to midnight.
